What does your PR mean?
I just would like to clear something up in regards to PR, or page rank. There is a common misconception that your PR will increase your search engine rankings and that PR has many different factors that will make it go up or down. While the factors point is somewhat true, what you need to remember is that building PR is all about building links to your website on other sites. You will not increase your PR if you link to sites that have a PR of 0, but links to your site cannot hurt you. Go out and find links that will fit your site theme and ask them for a link. Please make sure not to use any automated software to find links or use those link exchange websites to find link partners. This is one of the most tedious processes that you have to do when search engine marketing. Link building should never end. All in all, you need to remember that your PR is about how many quality links point to your site and that is it. Good luck with your link building!

Personally I do not go by PR at all. I look at the quality. I have seen far too many websites with high PR get banned and drag others down with it, and far too many brandnew ones shoot up from 0 to 5, 6 or even 7.
So my advice is to ignore PR.

I agree with Mike somewhat. But I would consider PR to be one of the most important factors. Normally, people simply use Google toolbar to check PR, hoping it’s accurate and current, and then decide if the price for the link is worth or not.
The way I like to check directories’ PR is more based on how they can grow and have potential in the future. So, I don’t just see the current PR and decide if I should buy a link or not. I would like to see or try to see their potential by checking on their backlinks.
So, ultimately I am more looking at their backlinks rather than PR when deciding the directory’s value. The current PR doesn’t tell you much as it can be dropped in the next Google update, so if you think link building is like an investment, I think you want to check on the future rather than the current.
